As part of their Handmade Portraits series, Etsy have released this video on a Japanese swordsmith named Korehira Watanabe. Watanabe has been working on recreating a mythical sword called the Koto, which dates back to 794-1333 AD.
I’m fascinated by the meticulous process that Watanabe and his in-training disciple go through to craft one of these swords. It’s a shame that there aren’t many Japanese swordsmiths left, and that this art form may be lost to us in the near future.
